The 2023 high school football season in Idaho is about to start. The best team in the state right now is the Rigby Trojans, who were the champions last year. The Trojans are led by Jake Herndon, who is a very talented football player.
In the 2023 season, Bishop Kelly, a team that hasn’t lost a game yet, started off at the top spot in the 4A media poll, surpassing Skyline. You can check where your favorite team stands before Week 3.
In a Week 2 match, Highland, a strong team from eastern Idaho, beat Skyline, who had won the state championship three times in a row, with a score of 31-20. After Skyline’s first loss in 2023, they dropped in the 4A rankings, and Bishop Kelly moved up. Bishop Kelly has already beaten two 5A teams, Capital and Centennial.
In the 5A rankings, the Rams stayed in the second spot, with Eagle at No. 1 and Mountain View at No. 3, both from the Southern Idaho Conference. Highland got two first-place votes, while the Mustangs received 11.
Rocky Mountain moved down one place in the media poll after losing to the Mavericks in the ‘Battle of the Mountains’ last Friday. They swapped places with Mountain View. The Grizzlies will be playing against Eagle on Friday. Mountain View is aiming for a 3-0 start and will face Owyhee on Thursday.
Last week, West Side was the No. 1 team in the 2A classification, but on Tuesday, North Fremont took over that spot. West Side lost a game 54-44 to Layton Christian High School in Utah during Week 2. North Fremont got 11 first-place votes because they had a strong 48-12 win against Kellogg.
The 2023 Idaho high school football season looks like it will be very competitive. Rigby is seen as the top choice, but any of the teams mentioned earlier could come out as the champions.
