high school football America 300

The initial in-season High School Football America 300, supported by NFL Play Football, is influenced by 27 direct matchups among the national rankings that took place over the past weekend.

Mater Dei and St. John Bosco, prominent teams from Southern California, retain their positions as No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Nevertheless, Buford from Georgia experiences a significant upward shift within the Top 10 after achieving a shutout victory of 18-0 against preseason No. 3 St. Frances Academy (located in Maryland) on Friday night. As a result, Buford advances by three positions, securing the No. 4 spot in the latest rankings.

SFA drops to the No. 7 position this week. The Panthers will aim to secure their first victory next Saturday as they journey to South Florida to play against No. 14 Chaminade-Madonna. This match will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN. The game is included in the Broward County National Football Showcase, a seven-game event that highlights ten teams ranked in the  300.

Here’s the Broward County National Football Showcase Schedule:

  • Thursday, August 24: No. 57 Milton (Georgia) against Western (Florida) on FloFootball at 7:30 PM Eastern.
  • Thursday, August 24: No. 67 Cedar Grove (Georgia) versus Monarch (Florida).
  • Friday, August 25: Cardinal Gibbons (North Carolina) at No. 24 Cardinal Gibbons (Florida).

  • Saturday, August 26: No. 19 St. John’s College HS (Washington, DC) taking on No. 16 American Heritage (Plantation, Florida) on FloFootball at 7:30 PM Eastern.

The reigning national champion, St. John Bosco, travels to Florida to take on No. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas, a game broadcast on ESPN2. St. John Bosco has secured 16 consecutive victories against teams from outside their state since their loss to STA in 2017. The Raiders are aiming for their fifth consecutive Florida 7A state championship this year.

Bishop Gorman moves up a position to No. 3 this week. They began with a comeback victory against No. 70 Corner Canyon from Utah. This marked the first of five successive games against nationally-ranked opponents for Gorman. In the upcoming week, BG faces No. 74 Long Beach Poly from California.

No. 5 IMG Academy from Florida achieved a significant win with a 35-10 victory over preseason No. 23 Lipscomb Academy, the two-time defending Division II-AA champion from Tennessee. In the following week, the Ascenders will compete against No. 10 St. Joseph’s Prep from Pennsylvania, the defending 6A state champion in that state.

Buford isn’t the sole Georgia team making progress in the Top 25 this week. Colquitt County climbs five spots to reach No. 13 after an impressive victory over preseason No. 11 Dutch Fork, the defending 5A champion from South Carolina.

Additionally, defending Georgia 6A champion Langston Hughes advances from No. 25 to No. 17 this week. On Friday night, Hughes managed a comeback to defeat 2022 7A runner-up Carrollton with a score of 39-35. This game was televised on ESPN.
